Community Gardening Program
Makiki Community Garden is Honolulu's first recreational garden. The Community Recreational Gardening Program began in 1975 under Mayor Frank Fasi. The program's purpose is to provide people living in Honolulu's densely populated communities access to garden plots. There are currently ten community gardens throughout O'ahu.

Honolulu Recreational Community Gardening Program Passes New Rules May 12 2025
The new Rules & Regulations have been adopted! Click on this link to read the 2025 Rules and Regulations Governing the Honolulu Recreational Community Gardening Program. Gardeners have a one-year grace period to make necessary changes in their plots and common areas to comply with these newly adopted rules. Revocation of plot permits will still apply for non-compliance with the newly adopted rules that also existed in the former rules and regulations, such as: attendance and cleanup requirements, missed payments, fire hazards, pesticide use, and other City and State laws.
Location
Makiki Community Garden is located within the Makiki District Park at 1527 Ke'eaumoku St. in Honolulu. Parking for the garden is best accessed on the Makiki St. side of the park.
