Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association
- Prior to becoming a public space, the Makiki Community Garden and the entire Makiki District Park were part of the Experiment Station of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association.
- The Experiment Station in Makiki was well documented in agricultural research such as this 1963 article from Pacific Science.
Twentieth Anniversary Event
- Stories about the founding of the garden and the original gardeners were collected at the Makiki Community Garden 20th anniversary event in July 1995.
